OFFSET 2018:
The Hit List & What to Expect

We’re very excited to announce that we will be partnering with OFFSET this year and hosting a number of OFFSITES at Iconic Offices. So ahead of the big event we sat down with OFFSET’s founders, Lisa Haran & Bren Byrne, to learn more about what to expect and who to keep an eye out for at the main event itself.

OFFSET is an annual design conference held in the heart of Dublin at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. Now in its 12th edition, it has gone from attracting 450 attendees to selling out theatres seating 2,500 people since its inception in 2009; OFFSET has definitively stamped its place in the global design calendar as the go-to event for creatives across Ireland and around the world.

Spanning 3 days, the conference is packed with presentations, interviews, panel discussions and debates with 100+ speakers across all levels of industry and disciplines. The 27 creatives who will take to the Main Stage have incredibly diverse backgrounds and span the fields of Graphic Design, Photography, UI/UX, Animation, Gaming, Illustration, Branding, Fashion, Film, Industrial Design and Art.

OFFSET is more than just a conference: it is a true celebration of contemporary design culture that puts Ireland in the spotlight, creating a festival-like atmosphere that all begins with OFFSITE.”

OFFSITE is a weeklong fringe festival held in the lead-up to OFFSET, comprising of workshops, masterclasses, tours and other accessible events across Dublin. It provides hands-on learning opportunities for attendees and allows them to come face-to-face with industry professionals.

OFFSITE 2017 featured some of its most successful events yet, including a sketchcrawl through Dublin city, with top illustrators Steve Doogan and Steve Simpson at the helm; a masterclass with Dan Perri, creator of the iconic Star Wars text crawl; and a night of ‘creative speed-dating’, which saw participants leave with a sketchbook full of advice and new industry contacts.

OFFSET have such an incredible array of talented artists, creatives and innovators speaking at the event. You can expect the best of the best as well as talented up-and-comers, we’ve put together a hit list of pure talent to watch out for so you don’t miss anything!

An artist, designer and curator, Drew is another big name to write down in your calendar. The current director of Facebook’s Artist Residence Program, he is largely credited with the creation of the program, which has significantly altered the face of corporate art patronage.

In the field of magazine design, OFFSET will welcome Gail Bichler, who, as design director, has led the New York Times Magazine to new heights and overseen the creation of some of the most ground-breaking cover designs in the magazine’s illustrious history

From the world of game design OFFSET will welcome Dan Gray, who is the studio head of ustwo games and one of the creators of the award-winning mobile games Monument Valley and Monument Valley 2.

A true artist of the digital age. The traditionally trained painter turned technologist is best known for the creation of, which was one of the first websites to share open source Flash files with the public.

For aspiring cartoonists and illustrators, there is Chris Ware a giant of the art world so gargantuan that OFFSET directors have been inviting him since the event’s inception over a decade ago.

Graphic designers take note, because brothers Luke Powell and Jody Hudson-Powell will represent the cutting-edge design studio, Pentagram, at OFFSET. This dynamic graphic design duo has worked for brands from Coca-Cola to the BBC, and will no doubt be a source of sound advice and insight for all who attend.

In terms of home-grown talent, attendees will be treated to the likes of innovative director Aoife McArdle, who has set the world on fire with her first feature film Kissing Candice; Peter Donnelly, illustrator and author of the much-loved children’s book The President’s Glasses; and Simone Rocha, the first fashion designer to ever grace the OFFSET Dublin stage.

However, at OFFSET inspiration is not just found in the industry professionals featured on stage; fellow attendees also represent a valuable learning and networking opportunity. Attendees come from all disciplines and backgrounds but share one thing in common: a passion to be creative.  The sense of community fostered by OFFSET inevitably leads to attendees joining group discussions, collaborating with students and professionals across a variety of disciplines, and ultimately broadening their own personal networks.
